FAQ page

Also called frequently asked questions page, FAQ section, FAQ schema

What is a FAQ page?

An FAQ page is a page (or a section of a page) that lists frequently asked questions about a product, service or topic, each with a short, direct answer. It helps visitors find answers quickly and can match question-style searches people type or ask AI assistants.

FAQ structured data (FAQPage schema) used to make pages eligible for expandable FAQ rich results in Google. Google limited those to well-known government and health sites in August 2023 and stopped showing FAQ rich results altogether in May 2026. The FAQPage type still exists in schema.org, but it no longer produces a special result in Google Search.

Why FAQ page matters for SEO

Good FAQs answer real questions in plain language, which helps conversion (fewer doubts before buying), reduces support load and gives search engines and AI systems clear question-and-answer pairs to draw on. Many question keywords can be answered well in an FAQ section.

The main mistake is writing FAQs for search engines rather than people: invented questions stuffed with keywords, or answers duplicated across hundreds of pages. That adds no value and risks being treated as thin content.

How to write an FAQ page

  1. Collect real questions from support tickets, sales calls, reviews, People Also Ask and keyword research.
  2. Use the question as the heading and answer it directly in the first sentence.
  3. Keep answers short, and link to a full page where a topic needs more depth.
  4. Group questions by theme if there are many.
  5. Keep the answers in visible HTML text, not hidden behind scripts that need a click to load.
  6. Review answers when prices, policies or features change.

Does FAQ schema still work?

Not for rich results. Google stopped showing FAQ rich results in May 2026. Valid FAQPage markup does no harm, but the visible questions and answers are what help users and search.

Are FAQ pages good for SEO?

They can be, when they answer real questions clearly. They help users, match question searches and give AI systems clear answers to cite.
