Bing SEO

Also called Bing optimisation, Microsoft Bing SEO

What is Bing SEO?

Bing SEO is the practice of optimising a website for Microsoft’s Bing search engine. Most of it overlaps with Google SEO: crawlable pages, helpful content, clear titles and quality links. Bing has its own tools, Bing Webmaster Tools, and supports IndexNow for notifying it instantly when pages change.

Bing’s index matters beyond Bing itself. It powers Yahoo’s web results, is one of the sources DuckDuckGo uses, and supports Microsoft Copilot’s web answers. Bing’s Webmaster Guidelines say it considers relevance, quality and credibility, user engagement, freshness, location and page load time.

Why Bing SEO matters

Bing is often overlooked, which means less competition. Its audience can be meaningful, especially on Windows desktops and in some countries and industries.

Because several services rely on Bing’s index, a site missing from Bing can also be missing from places it would otherwise appear, including some AI answers that draw on web results. Checking Bing is a cheap way to widen your AI visibility.

Bing has its own local listings too. A Bing Places profile is the Bing equivalent of a Google Business Profile and can be imported from it.

How to optimise for Bing

  1. Verify your site in Bing Webmaster Tools; you can import it from Search Console.
  2. Submit your XML sitemap there.
  3. Set up IndexNow so new and updated URLs are reported automatically.
  4. Check Bing’s Site Scan and URL Inspection for crawl and indexing issues.
  5. Make sure robots.txt doesn’t block Bingbot.

Bing SEO FAQ

Is Bing SEO different from Google SEO?

Mostly not. The fundamentals are the same. Bing offers IndexNow and its own webmaster tools, and its ranking signals and weighting differ in detail.

Is Bing worth optimising for?

Usually yes, because the extra work is small. Most of it is the same as Google SEO, and Bing’s index reaches Yahoo, parts of DuckDuckGo and Microsoft Copilot.

How do I get my site indexed on Bing?

Verify the site in Bing Webmaster Tools, submit your XML sitemap and use IndexNow or URL submission for new pages. Make sure Bingbot isn’t blocked.
