Local landing pages
What are local landing pages?
Local landing pages, or location pages, are pages on a business website dedicated to one location or service area, such as “/locations/leeds” or “Boiler repair in Harrogate”. A good one gives the address or area covered, contact details, opening hours, services available there, directions, local photos, staff and reviews.
For businesses with several branches, each branch usually gets one page, which its Google Business Profile links to. For service area businesses, pages often cover the main towns served.
Why local landing pages matter for SEO
Location pages help relevance: they give Google and customers clear, local information that a single contact page cannot. They can also rank in normal organic results for “[service] in [town]” searches, which matters in areas where your profile is too far away for the local pack.
They become a problem when they are copies. Hundreds of pages that only swap the town name are doorway pages, which Google’s spam policies prohibit, and they rarely rank anyway.
How to create local landing pages
- Make one page per real location, or per main area you serve.
- Include the NAP, hours, map, parking or access details and services offered there.
- Add genuinely local content: photos of that branch, staff, local projects, reviews from customers there.
- Add LocalBusiness structured data for that location.
- Link each page from your main navigation or a locations hub, and from the matching Google Business Profile.
- Do not mass-produce pages for towns you do not really serve.
Local landing pages FAQ
Are city pages bad for SEO?
Not if each one is genuinely useful for that place. Near-identical pages that only swap town names are doorway pages and break Google’s spam policies.
Should each location have its own page?
Yes, for businesses with several real locations. Each page should link from its Google Business Profile and carry that branch’s details.
