Looker Studio
What is Looker Studio?
Looker Studio is Google’s free tool for building dashboards and reports from data sources such as Google Search Console, Google Analytics 4, Google Sheets and BigQuery. It began as Google Data Studio, was renamed Looker Studio in October 2022, and in April 2026 Google renamed it Data Studio again. Existing reports and connectors carried over unchanged.
Reports are built from connectors. The Search Console connector offers two tables: Site Impression (aggregated by property, as in the main Performance report) and URL Impression (aggregated by page). Mixing them gives figures that do not match, a common source of confusion.
Why Looker Studio matters for SEO
It turns SEO reporting from a monthly copy-and-paste into a live dashboard that anyone with access can open. You can combine Search Console queries, GA4 key events and spreadsheet data in one view, share it with clients and filter it by page, country or device.
Dashboards only show what the connectors provide, though: the same Search Console limits apply, such as anonymised queries and the 16-month history.
How to build an SEO dashboard in Looker Studio
- Open the tool (datastudio.google.com or lookerstudio.google.com) and create a blank report.
- Add the Search Console connector, choose your property, then pick Site Impression or URL Impression and Web as the search type.
- Add the GA4 connector for the same site.
- Add a time series of clicks and impressions, a table of top queries, and a table of landing pages with sessions and key events from GA4.
- Add a date range control and filters for device and country, then share the report with view access.
